Conor McGregor striking coach Owen Roddy: ‘We believe we can shock the world’
After introducing the idea of the logarithm at the last part of class on day one of the logs lesson, I wanted to jump right into an activity that got the students doing the sense-making with these easily-misunderstood expressions. So, at the beginning of class on day two, we used the game of War to reason with logarithmic expressions. Here is what the game looks like before you cut up all of the cards again, credit to Kate for this: Logarithm war cards Before we began the actual game of War, I needed to really make sure that this served its purpose as an opportunity for students to reason about and deepen their understanding of the meaning of logarithms, so I had students order the cards from least to greatest. Students paired off and had some really awesome conversations and arguments about the meaning of the logarithms they were trying to simplify, so this part of the sense-making became the true assessment for learning that they and I needed. I simply monitored the room and asked questions as students began to line up their cards. It was very helpful for both me and the students as they formed a stronger understanding of how to think about a logarithm and helped us to form a few stronger definitions for exponents as we talked.

I hope new and veteran teachers alike can find something useful. Thanks to mathbythemountain for suggesting this post; after my last post , she asked me to explain each activity. If I have problems prepared, then they work it on the desk and I show the answer. If I don’t, then I walk around and look at their work, Or both. I set them on the whiteboard ledge and students or groups come get one card and work it and then return it.
Each group should only have one card.
I absolutely love this. Finding that healthy relationship between practicing MA, being a father of two, and running a business is a tough one.

Key traits are analyzed, including height, body mass index, age, education, income, personality, social attitudes, and religiosity. This revealed near-zero genetic influences on male and female mate choice over all traits and no significant genetic influences on mate choice for any specific trait. We also tested for evidence of sexual imprinting, where individuals acquire mate-choice criteria during development by using their opposite-sex parent as the template of a desirable mate; there was no such effect for any trait.
The main discernable pattern to mate choice was assortative mating; we found that partner similarity was due to initial choice rather than convergence and also due at least in part to phenotypic matching. The sexual choices of our ancestors over hundreds of thousands of years have helped shape our evolution Miller , yet the factors governing human mate choice are poorly understood. One pervasive finding is that romantic partners are similar to each other in many respects.
Romantic partners correlate positively and strongly on age, social attitudes, and religiosity; correlate moderately on general intelligence, education, and physical attractiveness; and correlate weakly on height, weight, and personality traits Price and Vandenberg ; Martin et al. Several lines of evidence indicate that similarity between partners is due to initial choice assortative mating , rather than convergence during the relationship Mascie-Taylor ; Caspi, Herbener, and Ozer ; Watson et al.
Family studies suggest that assortative mating is at least partly due to similarity in social backgrounds i. Beyond matching on similarity, little is known about why we choose who we choose.

How I Save Money Because I’m a teacher and we aren’t exactly on the Fortune list, I’m always looking for ways to save and make money. As a high school math teacher, I love numbers and I compete with myself to find new ways to play with money. Household My parents live one mile away from me and they make their own laundry detergent so I just steal a gallon of it every time I run out. This may or may not be an option for you but you could always make your own with this recipe.
You can basically create any cleaning product for much cheaper if you look on Pinterest first. I have a programmable thermostat that I program to change the temperature while I’m gone at school so my system runs less and I can save money on utilities. Recycle Wal-Mart bags as trash bags for tiny trash cans around the house. Buy reusable Swiffer pads and Swiffer WetJet pads that I wash after each use rather than buying refill packs.
Again, I live close to home, unmarried and no kids, and my mom is a great cook so I literally go there for dinner every night. While that is not really an option for most people, I’m leading up to taking leftovers for lunch every day. The Dollar Tree is my favorite store for everything but especially kitchen items. Practically my whole kitchen and classroom are stocked from there.

Friday, July 29, Growth Mindset Mistakes Poster A continual focus in my classroom is helping my students build a growth mindset. One quote I’ve seen time and time again when it comes to mindset is “Mistakes are expected, respected, inspected, and corrected. This summer, I decided that I wanted to post this on the wall in my classroom as a reminder to students. I looked online to see if anybody else had already made a poster, but I didn’t see anything that really caught my eye.
27/10/18 – Adrian, looking on the internet hasn’t really brought much to light regarding dimensions for the Ford, although Wikipedia and the Texas Transportation Museum both state that the Ford Model TT, introduced in and replaced by the Model AA in , had a wheelbase of ins/cms.
Volume 5 It seems like it was just yesterday that I decided to start Monday Must Reads as a weekly feature to highlight the awesomeness I see daily through the blogs I read and the inspiring teachers I follow on Twitter. Rick Barlow ‘s tweet caught my eye not because of what the student had written on the board but because of the poster hanging above the dry erase board. I think this poster belongs in every math classroom. This is definitely on my list of posters to create for my classroom for next year.
Christie Bradshaw has been featured before on Monday Must Reads for her innovative dry erase templates, and it doesn’t look like she is stopping anytime soon. If you have invested in a set of dry erase pockets , you need to do so now! Check out this awesomeness: Greta Bergman recently published a beautiful blog post about her approach to introducing students to solving systems of equations by substitution.

The label at left was the earliest label used in issuing the Little LPs, as it was a leftover label from the time before the sale, when the company was still in Long Island. Solomon used up the stock of these labels in
School starts on Monday! I don’t feel like I was very productive today. I did a lot of stuff, but I’m not sure I finished a lot of stuff. I did finalize what my students will be doing on Day 1, so I guess that’s a win.

I am trying to locate information and if possible drawings of the two buses in the attached images. They are both of the Cream Bus Service Ltd. I believe one is a Carrier CY and the other a Ford. I actually make model airplanes but would like to make a couple of models in remembrance of my Grandfather — hence my reach out for this help. Its all in the wonderful book on Samuel Ledgard: It includes a full history of Cream Bus. Not sure about drawings and dimensions though as small buses at that time varied greatly with regard to dimensions.
Thanks for the posting and photos.

Balaur bondoc is a species of theropod dinosaur which lived in what is now Romania during the late Cretaceous period. It is the type species of the monotypic genus Balaur which was described by scientists in August , and was named after the balaur (Romanian pronunciation:), a dragon of Romanian specific name bondoc means “stocky”, so Balaur bondoc means “stocky .
Description[ edit ] Balaur bondoc compared in size to a human. Balaur is a genus of theropod dinosaurs estimated to have lived about 70 million years ago in the late Cretaceous Maastrichtian , and contains the single species B. While the feet of most early paravians bore a single, large “sickle claw” on the second toe which was held retracted off the ground, Balaur had large retractable sickle claws on both the first and second toes of each foot.
It also possesses a great number of additional autapomorphies , including a reduced and presumably nonfunctional third finger, consisting of only one rudimentary phalanx. It consists of a variety of vertebrae , as well as much of pectoral and pelvic girdles , and a large part of the limbs. It is the first reasonably complete and well-preserved theropod from the Late Cretaceous of Europe.

There is no reason to overbuild a sword. Our swords have been reviewed on youtube by hundreds of people, only two or three failed, and those who do, we honored and corrected the issue. I have created a prepaid label to get the Carpathian Sword back. I have also attached the commercial invoice you will need to send it back. We agreed that you would send the Guardian Sword back but we never received it.
I don’t have any answers here. I can only do my best to articulate the question. The collection of tweeting and blogging math teachers we call the Math Twitter Blogosphere confuses me.

There are occasions when life presents us with a happy balance; at such times you have to recognize that twisting the dial further—all the way to 11, so to speak—would be a mistake. Consider Mechagodzilla and the current rage to make every bike as long and slack as possible. For decades, millions of people experienced the unrivaled joy of watching two grown men in ill-fitting monster suits pummel the crap out of one another.
There is an undeniable majesty to old school, pre-CGI Godzilla. This was true whether the big lizard was handing Mothra his ass or simply running amok on a Friday night with his boys, Gidra and King Caesar, setting city blocks aflame and whatnot. What is the exact source of that magic? You may as well ask why kittens are cute or why couples hold hands and stare off into the sunset.
Hell if I know.
